Presented here is the unusual redox reaction induced structural transformation among three new copper coordination polymers with different structures, which shows that a chain structure [Cu ~(II) _2(tmdpy)(2,6-pdc) _2]· (DMF) (1; tmdpy = 1,3-di(4-pyridyl)propane; 2,6-pdc = 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate) can irreversibly transfer to a layer structure [Cu ~(II)Cu ~I(tmdpy)(2,6-pdc) _(1.5)]· (DMF) (2) and 2 can reversibly transfer to another chain structure [Cu ~(II)(tmdpy)(2,6-pdc)] · (DMF) (3) through changing the reaction temperatures. The results demonstrate that temperature plays a dominant role on controlling the redox reaction and the structural transformation.
