摘要

The aim of this paper is to discuss the importance of screening before delivering promotional programmes in respect of mental health of adolescents. For this study, 320 adolescents of different backgrounds hailing from Mangaluru District of Karnataka State in South India were selectedthrough cluster sampling. The mean age of the sample was 14.07 years (±.92). 40% of them studied in a high profile private school, 31.9% were drawn from institutions and 28.1% were residing in Government Hostels. Female adolescents constituted 55.3% of the sample. The prevalence ofpsycho-social problems and mental health issues among adolescents was to the tune of 19.1% and 12.2% respectively. A significant difference was noted in the level of psycho-social problems based on gender and in the presence of mental health issues among the adolescents of different groups.The implications of the study are discussed.
