Australia alumina sport price are practically unchanged so far this year amid little spot activity; Chinese prices have risen 11% mostly due to restocking ahead of the Chinese new year holidays. Australia alumina stands at $388 per mton FOB, trading at a $1-$3 per mton discount against alumina from Brazil. In China, domestic spot prices (ex-works and excluding VAT) stand at $390 per mton, up 11% YTD. Chinese domestic alumina is still $17-per-mton cheaper than Australian material on an import-parity basis, although the difference has narrowed significantly from $60 per mton at the end of last year.
