摘要

SiC-AlN solid solution whiskers have been synthesized by heating a mixture of alpha-Si3N4, Al2O3, MgO, and Y2O3 in a graphite crucible in a N-2 atmosphere. The as-synthesized whiskers are well-crystallized with a width of 0.5-5 mu m and a length of 0.1-1 mm. According to the experimental and thermodynamical calculation results, the formation mechanism of SiC-AlN solid solution is discussed. It is proposed that the SiC-AlN whiskers are produced via the vapor-solid (VS) process.
