US utility Sempra has signed three non-binding LNG sales agreements from its planned Costa Azul export facility in northwest Mexico. Total and Japanese companies Tokyo Gas and Mitsui have agreed in principle to take 800,000 t/yr, equivalent to about 103mn ft~3/d (1.1bn m~3/yr) of gas, for 20 years. Sempra expects to finalise the agreements in the spring, which would allow it to fund construction of the project in late 2019 and start exports in 2023. The preliminary agreements were signed with Sempra's Mexican subsidiary IEnova, which owns the facility in Baja California, as well as its LNG and midstream business unit.
