摘要

Learning modules in Physiology and Pharmacology have been an amalgamation of didactic lectures, practical sessions, tutorials and small group discussions. Experiential learning component is an essential part of academics as it reinforces theoretical construct. The understanding of Physiological concepts implies not only the students' must be knowledge about certain factual information but also their ability to apply this knowledge in practical settings. This structured experiential learning must be included in the curriculum and medical education. In recent past the undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and Physiology and Pharmacology has suffered a setback in imparting practical skills due to several reasons, namely the lack of initiative of faculty, shift in policy on animal experiments for the purpose of teaching and administrative apathy for providing infrastructural support. The Department of Physiology, AIIMS, New Delhi has taken an active initiation to innovate and validate newer experiments for undergraduate and postgraduate medical educations. We are presenting this as supplement in the issue. Other institutes are also encouraging to make advances in this direction.
