Several studies have shown that a low spray volume was possible for a lot of pesticide applications but only if the farmer uses a nozzle equipped with a minimum volume function. For applications against Fusarium head blight, earlier performed trials have shown that a minimum spray volume was required to cover wheat ears. Arvalis' recommendation is still 150 L ha"1 minimum, whatever the nozzle type used (flat fan nozzle or double flat fan nozzle). Even though a double flat fan nozzle covered more earsthan a flan fan nozzle, no link was shown between coverage and wheat yield. So, it is important to see if these findings are still valid using new nozzle types like asymmetric double flat fan nozzles and a sticker adjuvant, Sticman~R.Field trials on wheat were done, comparing different spray volumes (50 L ha"1 and 150 L ha1) with a few nozzle types: one flan fan nozzle and two different double flat fan Venturi nozzles. A sticker adjuvant was also tested to see if it is useful. For each trial, efficacy of treatment and yield were measured.Results clearly showed that the recommended 150 L ha"1 minimum dosage is still right. Double flat fan nozzles protected wheat ears better, but without any positive consequence on wheat yield. The Sticman~R adjuvant doesn't have any effect on wheat ears'protection against Fusarium head blight.
