A single-phased Sr4La6(SiO4)(6)Cl-2:Dy3+ (SLSOC:Dy3+) white phosphors are successfully synthesized by solid-state method and the photoluminescence properties are investigated. The structural properties of the phosphors are characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). In addition, ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance (UV-Vis DR) spectra, photoluminescence excitation (PLE) and emission (PL) spectra were applied to evaluate the samples. The PLE spectra are consisted of a series of sharp lines from the 4f-4f transitions of Dy3+. Also, two obvious PL peaks are located at 484 and 574 nm, corresponding to F-4(9/2) -> H-6(15/2) (blue) and F-4(9/2) -> H-6(13/2) (yellow) transitions. The optimum concentration of Dy3+ is about 2 mol% and the dipole-dipole interaction is responsible for the concentration quenching mechanism. Eventually, the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of all phosphors are located in white region. The results turn out that the phosphor could be excited by the near ultraviolet (NUV) and blue light, then it emits white light.
