A limited agreement on trade facilitation, good regulatory practices and anticorruption has reached the legal scrub phase, according to a key Brazilian trade official, teeing up an announcement later this month. Yana Dumaresq, assistant deputy minister for foreign trade and international affairs with Brazil's Ministry of Economy, on Monday said, "we hope to have an announcement very soon." After receiving instructions from President Trump and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in March to intensify the bilateral relationship, the countries' trade teams have been working to conclude an initial agreement this year that covers trade facilitation, good regulatory practices and anticorruption. Some industry groups and lawmakers hope the two will strike a more comprehensive deal afterwards. "I believe that the undergoing legal scrubbing will be concluded by mid-October, so we hope to have them sign this month," Dumaresq said during an Oct. 5 webinar hosted by the Atlantic Council.
