With regard to the article by Tong et al.,1 we would like to clarify the public health approach to the management of people with HIV who risk infecting others in NSW. In line with nationally agreed principles, a graduated approach to achieving behaviour change is employed commencing with counselling, and being escalated if necessary, to a Public Health Order as a last resort. In the article, reference was made to the NSW Panel for the Management of People with HIV who Risk Infecting Others recommending against a Public Health Order. This was not the case.
