Enhancement of Flow Boiling Critical Heat Flux (CHF) in Alumina/Water Nanofluids

摘要

Engineered dispersions of nanoparticles, known as nanofluids, have been shown to enhance the Critical Heat Flux (CHF) limit in pool boiling. However, in many potential applications of nanofluids the physical situation is flow boiling. Here we report first-of-a-kind experimental data showing that nanofluids can also enhance flow CHF. The maximum measured enhancement is about 50%, which opens the possibility of substantial performance and economic improvements in nuclear systems, high-power electronics, heat exchangers, refrigeration systems, etc.
