Growing antibiotic resistance is leading to a continuous need for discovering new drugs and alternative treatments against infections. Essential oils (EO) have been receiving attention from a wide variety of research groups, in search for antimicrobial activity. EO are frequently applied via aerosol in order to combat respiratory distress (either during heat stress, after vaccination or during respiratory disease). Because of their volatility EO can easily reach the upper and lower parts of the respiratory tract through inhalation.
