In response to a suggestion received from the ISR readership, we are publishing a series of articles in this and the next few issues devoted to the basics of ropeway engineering, which Professor Josef Nejez has written for those readers who have no relevant engineering background. LET US BEGIN with a simple definition of the term ropeway: A ropeway is a transport system with carriers that are supported and/or hauled by ropes. This operating principle can be implemented in a number of ways.
