Papaya (Carica papaya L.) is one of the most cultivated and consumed fruits, both in tropical and subtropical regions, and is currently distributed in many tropical regions of the world.The world's second largest papaya producer is Brazil, with India holding first place. Most Papaya cultivation in Brazil is focused on the Northeast of the country, with the principal producers centered in the Bahia, Ceara, Espirito Santo, Minas Gerais, and Rio Grande do Norte states.
