摘要

During recent years, microarray platforms have developed into a widely used, reliable and reproducible approach for assessing the activity of all genes in the genome simultaneously. Gene expression patterns or "molecular signatures" were established in relation to complex cellular phenotypes and diseases. Molecular signatures are helpful for elucidating novel mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and are beginning to show a significant impact on the development of novel diagnostic procedures. Expression profiling data were correlated with distinct tumor classes and stages (Golub et al., 1999; Garber et al., 2001). Most importantly, molecular signatures were identified that are capable of predicting the response to cancer therapy as well as clinical prognosis (West et al., 2001; van't Veer et al., 2002).
