While some people thrive in colder climates, others can't seem to function properly in temperatures anywhere below freezing. There also are some groups of people who just seem to handle the cold much better. Although some of it has to do with genetics, it's mostly just a matter of knowledge and experience. Workers who spend hours in the cold need to begin prep-ping months in advance.

7. Ethylene has proven effective in shortening the postharvest cold storage period required for Anjou pears to ripen, allowing for market availability early in season.
