The furnace featured in papers published in Glass Technology 50 years ago; in particular the Presidential Address by L. E. Nortonreviewed furnace developments from 1928 to 1968. The Society's 29th President started work at City Glass Bottle Company's factory at Canning Town and his address began by using the total melting area of the furnaces in the factory as the initial measure, first in Canning Town up until it's closure and then at Harlow.
