Two medieval stained glass panels from the Dominican Monastery in Krakow, Poland, "The Holy Trinity" (other name: "The Throne of Grace") and the Virgin Mary at "The Annunciation" were subject of interdisciplinary analysis, with specific emphasis to investigate the original technology and state of preservation of the paint layers. For the study of the severe paint loss and degradation of the medieval glass the following techniques were chosen: 3D optical microscope, macro-XRF, SEM with EDS and XRPD. Owing to the research, it was possible to characterize technological aspects of the paint layers and underlying glass (proportion of the glassy phase to the pigment, morphology of the paint layers, glass composition, etc). Despite the differences in present state of preservation of the panels, the technological characteristic in both cases turned to be similar. Both panels were made from potash lime silica glass, with comparable percentage of silica and alkalis. Depictions were made with paints consisting mostly of hematite mixed with lead glass, but in different proportions. Moreover, assessment of the condition of the panels and identification of potential destructive factors resulted in elaborating and undertaking of necessary conservation treatment.
