In this paper, we address two important questions regarding peristaltic flows: 1) How to identify a "bolus" -a circulatory flow pattern-; and 2) Does the bolus disappear with increasing the magnetic field M? To answer 1), we propose a method based on the dynamical system which efficiently detects the presence of a bolus. In addition, the proposed method can also be used to calculate the critical value of a parameter at which the qualitative flow behavior changes. Another advantage of our method over the conventional technique is that our method characterizes the qualitative flow behavior for the complete range of the parameter values whereas in the conventional approach, the qualitative flow behavior is found for a particular value of the parameter. Investigating 2), we show that the bolus, if it exists, will only disappear with increasing the magnetic field M for negative flux q < 0. In other cases (q >= 0), the bolus is pushed in the boundary layer but it does not disappear even at large M.
