Ferro Corp(headquartered at Mayfield Heights,OH)has announced plans to cease production of organic pigments at its Canton plant in Westmoreland County,western Pennsylvania,by the middle of 2019.The Canton site,which also manufactures “functional coatings and colour solutions”,will be closed altogether by early 2020.At Canton,Ferro makes: coloured organic pigments,supplied in powder form,to the plastics industry(notably manufacturers of vinyl sidings);pigment pastes and liquid metal pigment preparations for decorative coatings on glass and fine china.Total output of all products produced at Canton is of the order of 5000-6000 tonnes/y.After the shutdown,some operations at Canton will be transferred to the company's King of Prussia complex in southeastern Pennsylvania,nearly 300 km southeast of Canton.
