Japan and South Korea have long been competing for major slices of the international and regional beauty market.However,Japan is currently performing more solidly than South Korea,which is struggling amidst the fallout of diplomatic issues with China.This is despite South Korean local personal care product sales hitting $10.7 bn in 2018,a notable improvement on $9.9 bn in 2017,market researcher Mintel reported.For example,South Korea's long-time flagship,Amorepacific,witnessed its operating profits drop to Won 549 bn($491 M)in 2018.Nevertheless,the South Korean domestic beauty sales are predicted by Mintel to hit $4.11 bn in 2019.GlobalData expects South Korean sales of facial skin care and facial make-up will increase from $8.8 bn in 2018 to hit $12.8 bn by 2023,growing at a CAGR of 7.8%.Japan has a more consistent positive outlook for the country's personal care product market.
