China is one of the world's leading exporters of sewn garments to the world, especially the US. According to some of the recent estimates by the US Department of Labor Statistics, the number of people employed in the textile and apparel segment in the US has decreased from 2.5 million during its peak in the 1970s to around 0.5 million in 2010.
