Two copper(II) complexes, Cu(tta)(2)(L (1) )(2) (1), Cu(tta)(2)(L (2) ) (2) (where L (1) = 4-imidazolylbenzaldehyde, L (2) = (E)-3-(4-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one) have been synthesized from the reaction of Cu(tta)(2) with L (1) and L (2) in the methanol medium, respectively. Their structures have been characterized by IR, elemental analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The copper (II) ion of 1 is in a distorted octahedral environment, in which the donor atoms are provided by two oxygen atoms of the two tta ligands and two nitrogen atoms of L (1) ligands, while that of 2 is in a distorted square-pyramidal environment with three O atoms of the two tta ligands and one N atom of imidazole ligand L (2) lying at the base.
