摘要

Now that we have established why the UK needs a system of heritage quarries, how do we go about creating one? The greatest task will be to set the parameters and operate the hierarchical system itself. The overriding aim of a heritage quarry system must be to assign protection to sites commensurate with their significance - past and future. It should be able to differentiate between locations of international, national, regional and local standing.The prerequisites of a viable system include clear policies and technical guidance, a sound intelligence base and an established hierarchy.
