The government's decision to press ahead with the HS2 high-speed rail link project undoubtedly brought a sigh of relief to the aggregates sector and wider construction industry when Prime Minister Boris Johnson made the announcement in February. HS2 represents one of the biggest national infrastructure projects the UK has seen in years and will be highly dependent on the supply of huge volumes of aggregates, asphalt and concrete.
