The Cierva C.30 was an autogyro designed by Juan de la Cierva and built under licence from the Cierva Autogiro Company by A V Roe & Co Ltd(AVRO),Liore-et-Olivier and Focke-Wulf.Avro obtained the licence to produce in 1934 and subsequently built 78 examples,under their model designation,fitted with the Armstrong Siddeley Genet Major 1A(known in RAF service as the Civet 1) seven-cylinder radial engine producing 140hp.The first production C.30A was delivered in 1934.Twelve C.30As built by Avro for the Royal Air Force entered service as the Avro 671 Rota Mk.1.The twelve were delivered between 1934 and 1935.They equipped the School of Army Co-operation at RAF Old Sarum near Salisbury.In 1940 they equipped 1448 Flight at RAF Duxford,later equip-ping 529 Squadron at RAF Hilton working on radar calibration work.Disbanded in October 1945 the surviving airframes were sold to private owners.At least one RAF example was fitted with floats and known as a Sea Rota in January 1935.Sturdy packaging with attractive artwork is a standard now with this manufacturer's releases.The cover shows a dynamic picture of the aircraft in flight and really makes this model stand out.The side of the box shows the standard safety and contents information and the four painting and de-caling options.Inside the box we have the sprues,decals and photo etched sheet sealed in an acetate bags well as an A4,12 page colour printed instruction booklet which is easily understood and well laid out.29 steps are needed to construction this model and although not a large model the detail and attention to detail is very good.In total,we have eight sprues moulded in a light grey durable plastic,one sprue of transparent parts,109 parts in all.A cardboard sleeve containing one sheet of photo etch and a sheet of decals from’Decograph’which appear in register but with some slight’bleeding’on the tailfin decals and on one set of squadron markings.
