Education and Multimedia-Interactive Teachware for Communications Engineering

摘要

In the context of recent activities at almost all German universities to reform educational concepts with respect to global demands, new methods of teaching complex subjects in engineering disciplines have become a lively topic of discussion. With the availability of powerful multimedia applications nowadays, the question is how they can be used to improve traditional didactic methods. A detailed discussion of this matter shows that as early as the 70's, basic concepts for efficient Computer Assisted Teaching (CAT) had been established, which still hold for the wide variety of multimedia applications nowadays. In this paper, we give an overview of recent activities in the field of CAT. We will classify existing projects according to their potential use, as well as their technical complexity. Then we will present our specific projects on multimedia teachware at the Institute for Communications Engineering, Munich University of Technology. A detailed discussion of our own experiences with Computer Assisted Teaching, together with our future activities for developing new teachware packages, concludes the article.
