The 2017 International Liquid Crystal Elastomer Conference (ILCEC) was held in Houston (Texas, USA) from 16 October to 18 October at the Rice University Campus, organised by Prof. Rafael Verduzco and Dr. Tim White. Despite having been hit by hurricane Harvey, Houston welcomed chemists, engineers, physicists and biologists with open arms to present and discuss their latest findings and new perspectives related to liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs). The conference was packed with a full three-day programme divided in six main sessions: elasticity and ordering, materials physics and performance, materials chemistry - LC networks and elastomers, materials chemistry - covalent adaptive networks, advanced materials and applications, and shape programming.
