After having had the annual meeting of the British Liquid Crystal Society (BLCS) together with the German Liquid Crystal Society first in Edinburgh (2016) and then in Würzburg (2017), it was time to have a separate meeting again. This years' conference of the BLCS was held in Manchester and was organised by Andrew Masters, who chaired the meeting from 26 to 28 March 2018 (Figure 1), which took place in the Barnes Wallis Building of the University of Manchester. Those readers who attended the 2015 European Conference on Liquid Crystals may still remember the facilities.
