This Chapter is applicable to vessels designed for the carriage of water cargo in tanks to have the class notation, Water Carrier, upon Owner's request. In view of the nature of the intended cargo, double hull tanker structures are not required. The requirements for hull construction and arrangements are to refer to Appendix l of this Chapter. The remaining parts of this Chapter refer to the current ABS Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels. The requirements in this Chapter are primarily applicable for new construction, but also apply for an existing tanker intended to change trading and class notation to Water Carrier. The Condition Assessment Program ("CAP") that evaluates the quality of existing tankers is available at the request of the owner prior to reassignment of the class notation.
