Offers for flat-rolled steel in the Chinese domestic market have been on the upswing following the Lunar New Year holiday, however global buying activity remained fairly limited last week as buyers continued to show apprehension amid the clouded outlook for global steel pricing. Prices for Chinese domestic sheet products rose by about Yuan 200/ mt ($30/mt) from the previous week, with activity from traders and mills boosting the post-holiday market. Downstream buyers, however, were not expected to resume their business until after the Lantern Festival on February 19, sources said. Market participants were expecting the market outlook to become clearer in the second half of February when business is back to normal.
