The latest official crude steel production figures for China showed Juneproduction at an all-time high of 73.23 million mt, an increase of 1.3% onMay and 5.7% higher than in June 2016. But there is suspicion that in realityproduction in the country has fallen as a result of the closure of inductionfurnaces whose output was not recorded in the official statistics.Despite the apparent production boom, availability appears sparsewith a large mill in northeastern China opting against making officialoffers as its HRC export allocation was less than 20,000 mt for thismonth. A Shanghai-based trader said this was not even enough tomeet its long-term contact commitments with customers.
