Seismic monitoring in Uruguay started in 2013 with the installation of a single broadband seismometer. During the last four years, the number of seismic sensors in operation has increased to 11. The installation of new seismic instrumentation has indeed helped to develop knowledge about the seismicity of Uruguay. Four of these sensors are 120 s broadband seismometers (three Nanometrics and one Güralp) and the remaining seven are accelerometers (Güralp). The data are managed through SeisComP3 software, and the sensors are monitored in real time using 3G internet. The spatial distribution of the stations covers most of the country, and all of them are installed in locations where Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) network, managed by Geographic Military Survey (SGM) are also installed. The Uruguayan GNSS network REGNA-ROU provides CORS data to surveyors, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) users, engineers, and scientists to improve the precision of their positions and also to monitor crustal movements. Our goal is carried out together with Civil Defense (Sistema Nacional de Emergencias [SINAE]) and other national authorities to react promptly to any emergency related with seismic events. Thus, the current objectives are to improve data quality, increase the sensor density of the network by adding new stations, and reduce processing time. This strategy should greatly improve the network performance in the upcoming years.
