The testcross F1 of V20A/rufipogon//V20B///V20B/Ce64 was backcrossed 3 times with Ce64, one of the best restorers used in Chinese hybrid rice. After several generation advancement based on molecular marker analysis and field selection, one promising family (Q611) was developed, which is of very high grain weight per panicle and very strong heterosis when it comes to their hybrids. The results of yield trials in Hunan, China and marker analysis showed that the 2 yield-enhancing genes, yld1.1 and yld2.1, from Oryza rufipogon were successfully transferred into currently elite hybrids based on marker-assisted selection, which raised the heterosis level to a large extent and significantly increased the yield potential in Chinese hybrid rice..
