Entering 2020,we leave behind a so-called'year of rebellion'to enter a new year of unprecedented uncertainty. An irreversible structural change is underway in the market dynamics of the oil and gas sector.Traditionally, the ebb and flow of supply and demand drove price volatility, with resulting impact for better or worse on the industry. This largely happened above a stable, shared social licence to operate. However, this foundation is now under intense scrutiny as the oil and gas industry enters a period of re-invention.In order to understand how to navigate these uncertainties, earlier this year Wood(a multinational energy services company)undertook a scenario planning exercise that explored how the demand, supply and distribution of energy could evolve over the next 15 years.Through this work four scenarios were crafted that are being used to shape our thinking on the potential pace and depth of the energy transition.
