Persistence of Carbosulfan Formulations in Laterite and Coastal Alluvium Soils of Kerala

The persistence of carbosulfan is reported in laterite and coastal alluvium soils using emulsifiable concentrate and granule formulations at 3 levels of treatment viz., 1.0, 2.5 and 5.0 ppm in an incubation study conducted at field capacity moisture level. Degradation of carbosulfan was influenced by the soil organic matter and the type of formulation. The coastal alluvium soil with higher organic matter (0.84%) showed less persistence with granule formulation showing comparatively higher persistence. The residues persisted upto 20-30 days in laterite soil while in coastal alluvium soil the persistence was upto 20 days at the higher treatment level. Higher level of application persisted for longer period as compared to lower levels.
