gamma- ray spectroscopy continues to be a dominant tool for studying nuclear structure, and with the continued development of gamma- ray arrays including tracking detectors such as GRETINA, the spectroscopic reach continues to extend. In this overview, a few selected examples highlight the use of GRETINA to investigate the shapes and symmetries of the nucleus through the first two campaigns of the array at the NSCL/MSU and ATLAS/ANL facilities.
