Following the surprisingly fast restart of Texan refineries and petrochemical plants after Hurricane "Harvey" made landfall at the end of August, production is now almost back to normal capacity. Chevron Phillips Chemical's Cedar Bayou site seems to have suffered the most serious flood damage, and is the only site reported to remain offline at least until November. Production capacities of 350,000 t/y of LLDPE, 280,000 t/y of LDPE and 320,000 t/y of HDPE (joint venture with Ineos), plus ethylene and propylene capacities of 817,000 t/y and 455,000 t/y, respectively, are located at Cedar Bayou, according to PIE's Polyglobe database (www.polyglobe.net). Commissioning of the nearly completed new cracker at the site will also be delayed until 2018. The cracker's ethylene production capacity is slated to be 1.5m t/y.
