In a non-blinded randomised trial in patients with liposarcoma, most of whom had already received at least two lines of chemotherapy, eribulin prolonged median survival by a few months compared with dacarbazine, a comparator with no proven value in this situation. Eribulin appears to be an option for patients who are well enough to tolerate its frequent and severe adverse effects and are prepared to accept the uncertainty over its harm-benefit balance, in particular in comparison with tailored symptomatic care.
