A gel containing the alpha-2 adrenergic agonist brimonidine (Mirvaso0) is marketed in the European Union for the symptomatic treatment of facial erythema associated with rosacea in adults (1). For patients with bothersome rosacea, cutaneous application of metronidazole, or alternatively azeiaic acid, has modest efficacy. Brimxinidm& has not been shown to have a more favourable harm-benefit balance (2). Brimonidine gel can provoke erythema, pruritus and a burning sensation in treated areas (1).
