Wallwork Heat Treatment (WHT) has invested in a second vacuum carburising and tempering facility at its Smallheath, Birmingham operation. This new plant, valued at more than 400 000 pounds, follows a 300 000 pounds investment at Wallwork's Bury facility last year. The new 1500 kg payload furnace at Birmingham further extends capacity in advanced heat treatment services at -the Smallheath site, and now enables customers to select from a range of techniques, extending from salt bath through conventional sealed quench case hardening to plasma nitriding and vacuum carburising. This new investment in advanced processes follows an investment in plasma nitriding at the Smallheath site 2 years ago.
