摘要

Intensive crop production system of Punjab is not possible without mechanization. After land, the next highest investment made by the farmers is in the form of farm machinery. Every farmer, who has invested in the tractor, has put in money worth thousands on farm implements also. Thus, farm machinery is an important asset to the farmer. Farm operations are seasonal and so is the use of farm machinery. Some machines like seed drills, harrows, spray pumps etc. are used for only 20 to 30 days in a year.Thus, farm machinery rests for most of the time round the year. In other words, farm machines spend very less time in fields in comparison to off-season rest period. Thus, off-season care of the machines is very important. If the off-season care is done effectively, it not only helps in increasing the life of the machine but also helps in cutting down the expenditure and ensures trouble free operation during its next usage.
