China's Hainan province has banned the sale and use of the insecticides, carbosulfan, omethoate and acephate, reports China's state media outlet, China Daily. The list of prohibited pesticides in the province now numbers 55, more than any othe part of the country. Hainan cracked down on "high-toxicity" pesticides last year after traces of the insecticide, isocarbophos were found on cowpeas grown in the province (Agrow No 589, p 23).
