The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has recommended the deregulation of Syngenta's genetically modified insect-resistant COT67B cotton event. It produces a modified Bt CrylAb toxin for the control of a range of lepidopteran pests, including cotton bollworms (Helicoverpa zea), tobacco budworms (Heliothis virescens), pink bollworms (Pectinophora gossypiella) and cabbage loopers (Trichoplusia ni). COT67B is a component of Syngenta's VipCot cotton, together with COT102, which produces a Bt Vip3A toxin (Agrow No 593, p 15).
