US government agencies have proposed changes to the pesticide registration review process to improve stakeholder participation in the assessment of risks to endangered species. The scheme envisages earlier involvement of registrants and other stakeholders, and later formal consultations between the EPA and the wildlife agencies under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). There has long been criticism of the ESA consultation process by industry and grower groups (Agrow passim).
