The European Commission is close to issuing new rules on the procedures for renewing active ingredient approvals, in line with the new EU agrochemical registration Regulation (1107/2009). Its proposals were voted through by the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health in July. The new procedures will apply from January 1st 2013 and will cover the third ai renewal project, dubbed AIR-3, which is just getting started (Agrow No 645, p 10). However, the ai evaluations already under way in the second project, A1R-2 (Agrow No 622, p 12), will continue to be conducted according to the renewal procedures of the former EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414).
