Bayer CropScience's crop protection sales rose by 18.4% in the second quarter to ?1,850 million ($2,271 million at the current rate). The increase after currency and other adjustments came in at 13.8%. All segments rose by double figures in nominal and underlying terms. The rise followed the strong first quarter, and beat expectations, leading the company to raise its earnings guidance for the year. Bayer group CEO and chairman Dr Marijn Dekkers singled out the CropScience division in his assessment of the group's second quarter. "All the subgroups contributed to the increase, especially CropScience, which continued to grow strongly."
