French maize growers and seed companies have appealed to the French council of state, the Conseil d'Etat, against the re-imposition of a French ban on the cultivation of Monsanto's genetically modified insect-resistant MON810 maize (Agrow No 637, p11). The council advises the government on the preparation of draft laws and decrees and adjudicates on disputes relating to government actions. The appellants comprise the general association of maize growers, the AGPM, the French union of seed companies, the UFS, and the national federation of maize and sorghum seed producers and companies, the FNPSMS.
