The closure of Japanese company Agro-Kanesho's manufacturing facility at Fukushima and product shortage contributed to a 12.4% decline in consolidated sales to ￥11,300 million ($144 million at the current rate) in 2011. The facility was shut down by the government because of its proximity to the nuclear power plant damaged in the earthquake and tsunami of March 2011. Agro-Kanesho expects its new production plant, being built at the Yuki site acquired from Bayer CropScience in late 2011 (Agrow No 632, p 3), to start operating in the first quarter of 2013.
