Soybean growers are complaining that the recent precautionary ban on the aerial application of four neonicotinoid insecticides is harming their business, national media report. Soybean grower association Aprosoja president Glauber Silveira says that the prohibition on the use of "30 insecticide products" is hitting the sector hard, according to newswire Agrodebate. He has reportedly told Ministry of Agriculture representatives at a meeting with industry that land-based applications could not be made in some soybean-growing areas. Opposition MPs are supporting the growers, newswire Agrolink reports, parliamentary group, the FPA, says that the ban is causing "grave" problems for the competitiveness of the industry. Agriculture Minister Mendes Ribeiro is to form "an internal group" to negotiate with the environmental agency, the Ibama, over the matter, Agrolink says.
